3 Nutritional Tips to Grow Your Curls Longer and Stronger

Growing longer curls is definitely attainable when you learn that what you put into your hair, as well as your body matters.

It's so important to have a  hair care routine and set wash days, but creating a balanced diet is even more important because it starts from within. Diet is often overlooked by naturals and not taken as seriously as choosing products for our curls. Our hair needs protein to thrive and that can be consumed through the foods we eat, not just protein treatments.

In this post you will learn about 3 nutritional tips that you can start implementing today, to grow your curls longer.

Tip #1: Create a balanced diet

A balanced diet is not only important for your body, but your hair is directly affected by the things we eat. Just like your body, your hair needs certain nutrients to flourish.

It is also important to eliminate junk foods and processed foods, as they lack the nutrients needed to grow your curls long and strong.

Healthy foods for hair growth

  • Berries

Berries are a great source of vitamin C. Our bodies use vitamin C to help produce collagen, which is a protein that can help to strengthen your curls and reduce breakage!

  • Eggs

Eggs are a great source of protein, which is what our hair follicles are made of. They also contain biotin, which is essential to the production of the protein keratin.

  • Beans

Beans are a great source of zinc, which helps repair your hair and allows it to regrow. They also include iron, biotin, and folate, which also help and aid in growing your curls longer and stronger. It's easy to include beans into your diet by eating them allow, adding them to soup, or even in rice.

  • Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are so versatile and are a great source of vitamin A. Vitamin A can help speed up your hair growth, increase the density, and protect strands.

  • Sweet peppers

Like berries and sweet potatoes, sweet peppers are a great source of vitamin C as well as vitamin A. Vitamin A in sweet potatoes stimulate the production of sebum, which help keep your hair healthy and strong.

Tip #2: Water, water, water!

Drinking water is sometimes really hard, but your body and hair will love you for it in the long run! You should be getting the recommended 8 glasses a day and even more is better. Our bodies are mostly made up of water (70%) and our hair, as well as our hair follicles, love being hydrated.

If you struggle with drinking water, a good trick is to replace one beverage of your choice, that you consume daily, with water. This way, you can slowly build up your water intake and start to see the results you want!

Tip #3: Collagen

Above, we discussed some of the foods you can eat to help promote hair growth and reduce breakage and some of the vitamins  and minerals were mentioned, one being collagen.

Collagen is so important because your body can use the amino acids found in collagen to help create proteins that also have anti-aging properties. Collagen can help prevent hair loss due to age related hair loss.

Your curls will be stronger than ever with the addition to collagen to your diet. It's super easy to incorporate into your diet because it can be used in water, teas, smoothie, and more.

It is something that can be used daily, but that is not necessary to start seeing results. It is recommended to use daily, however.
