What's up girl, it's Keziah here share with you what I learned from my $500 haircut.
Yeah, $500!
I went to Capella salon here in Los Angeles and the owner is Shai and he goes by the @CurlDoctor on Instagram.
You've probably seen him. He's been doing everybody's hair.
His specialty is a curl by curl haircut.
I took the leap of faith and called them to give it a go.
Now, I don't like anybody touching my hair.
If you the same way, comment below!
I'm afraid to let people touch my hair because I've had some really bad experiences back when I used to relax my hair or dye my hair.
I wanted to make sure that if I'm gonna let somebody touch my hair, it needs to be an expert.
So I went to Shai and had such a great experience!
I think my hair looks amazing!
He cut a little bit from the back to give it a more round shape.
Shai actually told me to stop cutting my hair on my own in the front because I actually need those pieces to get the shape I wanted.
The best part of the experience is the knowledge from him and his team that I can now share with you.
Here are the Five tips I learned:
#1: Shampoo Your Hair Once A Week.
I know I had been co-washing once a week and shampoo my hair once a month.
But Shai recommends shampooing once a week so that you can get out the product (like oils & Shea butter) build up so that your hair can breathe and take in moisture.
#2 Finger Detangling Actually Works!
I was blown away.
They didn't use a comb or a brush on my hair.
They simply sat there and finger detangled my whole hair.
I could feel the hands on my scalp, which felt amazing.
And by the time they were done, they rinsed my hair and I could feel water running through down my scalp!
I don't feel that often because towards my scalp the hair gets really matted.
So finger detangling actually works.
It does take a little bit longer, but it's a very, very thorough tip.
#3 Do A Deep Condition Once A Month.
So this is a mask or a deep conditioner.
It doesn't need to be a whole night out.
It can seriously just be putting the product in your hair and detangling your hair and then rinsing it out with the mask or deep conditioner.
#4 Use Lightweight Products On Your Hair.
Did somebody say lightweight?
Are you sure?
Yes! Lightweight products!
I was blown away, but it made sense once they told me that if we want volume and we want bounciness, we have to use lightweight products because our hair stands are very thin.
I've been trying it and it's actually given me the volume that I wanted in my hair.
#5 Use A Diffuser To Dry Your Hair.
I use a blow dryer and I have been for a while.
However, a diffuser is preferred if you want really defined curls.
So what they do at Shai salon is they diffuse our hair and that's the way that we can have the most defined curls.
If you want really, really defined curls, you've gotta use a diffuser.
I'm so happy with the results from Shai.
I plan on going back for another haircut!
