VIDEO - Elegant Wedding Hairstyle for Naturally Curly Hair

Hello, my beautiful curly friends. It's Keziah here and I'm back with another hair tutorial video for you. This one is a special hair tutorial video because I'm going to show you how to do a natural hairstyle for a wedding.
So whether you're the bride, congratulations or if you're attending a wedding or if your bridesmaids, this is a way that you can wear your natural hair for a wedding and where you feel elegant. It's part of the celebration and something different than just wearing your hair out in an afro or like your other styles that you may do during the week. This is actually a style I created on my own. I was having my big wedding in October, 2018 with my husband and I looked online because I wanted to see how I could wear my natural hair for the wedding and I searched and I was looking at natural hairstyles and I couldn't really find anything and I just knew that I wanted it to be really elegant for me and I wanted to pull it back and I wanted to figure out how can I do this with my natural hair.
After some research I had to create something of my own. So I kinda meshed two styles of pinning it to the side and then adding flowers because I've seen a lot of girls wearing the halo with the flowers. But I wanted it to also be mature because of the dress that I had was in A-line dress. It was very Cinderella like, and I just felt like I couldn't wear my fro out and then have it really sleek and tight and then big on the bottom too. I couldn't have two big things going on! I don't know if anybody feels me on that, but I just couldn't do it.
So I'm, I created the style and I'm here to share it with you. It's so beautiful, so elegant and so easy to do!
So before we begin there's a few products that you're going to need in order to do the style. You're going to need some Bobby pins and lots of them. Make sure that the color of your hair. So I have black because my hair is pretty dark and you want them to blend in. You don't really want to see them. You're going to need some hair ties. And I have my Snappee Hair Ties of course, so I can really adjust them, snap them on and off if I need, I can always snap to together to fit around my hair. Cause you know we have a lot of volume so make sure you have some adjustable hair ties if you're also going to need some flowers for your hair.
I chose the carnations because I felt like they were small enough and also kind of opened where I felt like they were very beautiful for the hair because the other option was roses. But I felt like with the roses I couldn't stick them in and have the, like the flower bud open, the roses were more tight. And another thing you want to keep in mind is depending on how you like the flowers in your hair, the flowers are going to open day by day. So meaning, after you take them home, you buy them. If you want them to be bigger and open a little bit more, on the bud there, as you can see, then you're going to want to buy them maybe like a day or two before the wedding. If you don't want them that open and you want them to be more like this one here, um, I suggest just buying them like the day before or the day of the wedding because they're going to be tightly more, um, they're going to be closed more tightly and it's just the way that flowers work.
I actually talked to the florist and she told me about these. So some flowers, they're not that expensive that these were about $4. All right, so if you're ready, let's get started. So I'm going to take my hair ties and I'm going to put them around my wrist so they're ready and available and I don't have to go looking for them because we're going to have to hold our hair down. And I do want to preface and let you know like the state of my hair right now. So you want to do it on freshly washed hair. So I washed my hair this morning, I put my leave in products and I also blew dry my hair, meaning I derived it with the blow dryer so that the products can set in it and my hair can stay longer. Or I guess you can say stretched.
If I don't blow dry my hair, my hair's going to shrink up just a little bit more and it's going to be actually harder for me to pull it back and create a button. For those of you that have a little bit more of a shorter hairstyle right now, what you can do is you can gently twist your hair to kind of elongate it a little bit more. Or if you're gonna use the blow dryer, you can stretch your hair a little bit by holding it out. I'll show you how you do that. You kind of cup your ends and you kind of pulled just slightly and then blow dry it like this to kind of stretch you're hair a bit. That also works. And now this is something we're not going to be doing every day. This is for a special occasion.

I know some people can freak out about it, but I've actually found a lot of benefits from diffusing or blow drying my hair and I'll share those in another video. But for this one, let's get right into the style. All right, so what we're going to do first is we're going to take our bangs out, we're going to separate them and pick however many beings we want to come out for the style and hang out in the front. So I want about that much. So I pulled them out and I'm going to take my snappy just to kind of hold my hair back in place. For right now, I'm just going to lightly put it over. I'm not even going to, you know, pull the all the hair through and then I'm going to go to the other side and separate the bangs as well.
And as you can see, I blew dry the bangs to hang down on my face. So keep that in mind as well. When you're blow drying your hair that you want them to hang over your face because this is a bang style. Okay. So I've pulled out enough things on both sides. I'm going to take out the snappy on this side, gently taking it out. Okay. And so now what we want to do is we're just going to pull her hair over and we're going to use our poems to cut our hair and kind of brush it to one side. Because what we're gonna do is we're going to create a side. And as I'm doing it, I'm also creating a smoother base here as I'm copying it. So if I feel like a piece of hair is kind of dip in a bit, then I'm going to kind of like pull it out before I actually pull my hair all the way back.
So now I'm holding the style here. It's the side bun that I'm going to create and I'm going to take my Snappee Hair Ties. As you can see it's already on my wrist. I was prepared and I'm going to pull it over and I'm going to create a bun. And so the way to do that is not to pull all the way all the hair through. You want to just create a bun by pulling half of it through and leaving the ends still intact with the hair tie. And then I'm going to take my other Snappee and I'm going to add it to it as well so that can secure the bun and it's okay if your hair comes out while you're doing this, we're going to go in and pin the hairs down. Okay. So now I have the style forming here and I have the side bun.
Now this is where you're going to take your Bobby pins and you're going to begin to pin any hairs that have popped out and did it make it so this one right here is popping out. So I'm going to go in and I'm going to pin this down and I'm going to pin it into the hair so that you don't really see it. And then I'm going to pin the hairs here just like that. So one thing I also like to do is I like to pull out some of this hair so I just kind of shake it out a bit because I want to cover my ear. I think my covering your ear, it's also a little bit more elegant. And as I had done that, then I go in and I pin the hair down over the ear. Again, be very gentle with your hair.
You don't want to pull it, you don't want to break it, you don't want to damage it. Just shows like jiggle it to come out of the bun. But not too much and go in and these hairs, then I'm going to go to the other side and I kind of wanted to go out the hair a bit here just so that I can cover my ears a bit. And actually on this side I don't feel like I need to pin it. So that's great. Now to the Bun, the way to really pin these hairs down is to pull them down and then pin into the bud. So you're actually going like directly straight into the one you're not going across.
It's really important to make sure you pin all of these extra hairs on the bun because you don't want it coming out and later on, well, you know you're saying your vows or you're dancing on the dance floor and having a piece of hair stick out from the bun. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but I know on a wedding day you want it to be perfect. So make sure you do all the pinning you can and really be diligent with the bun. And then I'm going to go in and I'm going to pin the top hairs here as well.
And now if you can't see the back of your hair, make sure and take a second mirror to your mirror. So I actually have a mere here, and as you can see, I can use it to see my hair on the video camera that's filming right now. But this is what you can do inside of your bathroom mirror or anything like that by taking another mirror to see the back of your hair. Okay, so now I'm done pinning and the bum looks secure.
And now if you can't see the back of your hair, make sure and take a second mirror to your mirror. So I actually have a mere here, and as you can see, I can use it to see my hair on the video camera that's filming right now. But this is what you can do inside of your bathroom mirror or anything like that by taking another mirror to see the back of your hair. Okay, so now I'm done pinning and the bum looks secure.
Now, if you felt like the top part of your hair got way too flat or more flatter than you want it will, you can do is go in and kind of pull and jiggle the hair to kind of create more of a puffier look and to create a little more volume, just like I'm doing here, I'm just going and pulling up the hairs, create more of a little volume there.
I already have my bangs out. Now, if your bangs aren't lane as flat as you want, this is a wonderful hack. I do this in a lot of my other videos. You can take a Bobby pin and you can go in and go underneath and pin the hair to your head so that your hair can lay flatter and lay in a specific position that you want it to. So I'm going to do it on this site too. There we go. So I just did the sides. Alrighty. And you can always do it underneath here if you like. If, again, if your bangs aren't laying flat like you like them too. All right, so now we're going to take our flowers and we're going to cut them and put them in our hair. So you're going to want to take a carnation individually. You want to leave at least an inch of the stem at the bottom so that you have enough to put in your hair.
You're going to be needing Bobby pins for this as well, because sometimes the flowers don't dig in enough or they might feel a little loose. And you're gonna want a Bobby pin them him. If that's the case. So to create the halo around, we're just going to make it just pretty much around halo. So we're going to start on this side. I'm going to go in and I'm going to find the base of the one and then I'm going to go in and stick the carnation. And so this one also seems a little bit loose, so that's where I'm gonna take my Bobby pin and then we're going to pin it in. Oh my gosh. I'm just looking at the style in the mirror and it's already bringing back memories from my wedding. I loved my hair. It was so beautiful and I was so happy that I wore my hair natural during my wedding.
I mean, I was so tempted. I'm not going to lie to straighten my hair because I always dreamed of my hair been like street and sleep and pulled back and everything focused on my face as it was leading up to the wedding. I was like, you know what? I was like, if my husband seen me like that, he would not think that I was even me because he only knows me with my natural hair and he loves my natural hair and I was so happy that I chose to wear my hair natural for the wedding. And I just want to say if you're in between at all on wearing your hair natural or straight and you typically wear your hair more natural, wearing natural, trust me, you will regret it at all. Okay. So back to the pinning.

So back to the pinning.
So make sure it doesn't come out and you want to space out the flowers. You don't want to keep them right next to each other because they're supposed to be kind of dotted halo style. And then you're going to add about six or so flowers depending on how it looks for your hair or um, just the range of your bun. If you have a smaller bond, you're probably add a little bit less. Just kind of to your liking. So we'll keep on going at this. Oh, it's coming along so nicely. All this is so pretty.
I think I'm going to have to wear my hair out like this today. This flower right here is really important to make sure you get one the way bottom here, because it really just brings it all together. All right. And then I'm going to go back and see if there's any areas I feel like I can add more flowers and I think I can add another one here. I think this, there's too much of a gap. So I'm going to go in and add another flower here. And again, like I mentioned, it's probably going to be your wedding day. So have somebody help you with this. My bridesmaids help me put the flowers in and it was so nice. They did such a good job. All right. And we're all done with the style now. I pinned about 10 flowers in my hair, so it was actually a lot more than I thought it was going to be because I just felt like the style needed it and there was space for it in my hair. And I'll show you what it looks like.
