Step #1: Wash your natural hair at least once every 7 days. Regular cleaning will also help your hair shaft absorb water and you’ll be able to get your products to work better.
Step #2: NEVER use oil-based shampoos & conditioners. You may be using products with shea butter, jojoba oil, coconut oil, argon or other oils.
The problem is, oil and water do NOT mix!
Oil-based products STOP water from penetrating your hair shaft!
Your hair may look shiny for a day or two but then dryness and frizz settles back in.
For long-lasting moisture, use products that are water-based.
Water-based products will penetrate the hair shaft with hydration and nourishment on wash day and throughout the week.
Step #3: Feed your hair moisture every day. This is a big one, and not everyone is aware of it. Whether it’s moisturizing styling products or a hydrating water mist, your natural hair should receive hydration daily.
Step #4: Protect your hair every night. Protection is huge, and natural hair life is incomplete without it. Wearing a bonnet at night will guard against ugly breakage, and you’ll be able to preserve your styles longer.
Step #5: Give it some time. If you change your hair routine to add more moisture, it may take a couple of weeks to really notice the difference. It takes time to completely get the old product oils out of your hair and allow the new, water-based products to rehydrate your hair shaft.
